Saraswati Pija was celebrated by the Bengali community in Faridabad with gaiety and fervour. This years puja was held at Mr. Tapan Bera's residence. The puja was held on saturday and the idol was immersed in nearbay canal on the nextday. Large number of children and adults participated in it.

Basant Panchami and Goddess Saraswati's birthday is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in many parts of the country .

Saraswati's birthday - Vasant Panchami - is a Hindu festival celebrated every year on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. Hindus celebrate this festival with great fervor in temples, homes and educational institutes alike.

Bengali communities areorganising special puja on the occasion and devotees are expected throng puja pandals to offer prayers.

Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, art and music, and wisdom. She represents the creative and inspirational aspect of Shakti.

Some people place their books, articles, instruments of music and arts before the goddess and seek their blessings. Among the bengali's the idol of Saraswati is installed during the durga puja. After the Saraswati Puja, the idol is immersed in the sea or the river with serenity. In all educational institutions of music, arts and science, Saraswati Puja is observed with great reverence.

On the Saraswathi Puja day, the most important event is the initiation of children into the world of letters.


Saraswati Puja, the worship of Hindu goddess of learning, is also observed during Navratri or Navratra (September - October) for three days. Yet another Sarasvati Puja is the Vidya Arambham in Kerala on the day after Navratri.

"May Goddess Saraswati, who is fair like the jasmine-colored moon, and whose pure white garland is like frosty dew drops; who is adorned in radiant white attire, on whose beautiful arm rests the veena, and whose throne is a white lotus; who is surrounded and respected by the Gods, protect me. May you fully remove my lethargy, sluggishness, and ignorance."
