LUCKNOW: Work on the proposed 170 km long expressway on the right bank of Ganga is likely to begin by March. The expressway, stretching between the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Ghaziabad to the border of Uttarakhand, would be 8-lane, the state government in a statement said on Thursday.

As per the draft proposal of the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the work would be carried out only after the consultant submits its feasibility report. An agency, ILFS Infrastructure Limited, has been appointed for the purpose of carrying out a feasibility study in the region. This would also include the alignment of the expressway.

The department would invite request for qualification and thereafter, a request for proposal from the qualifying bidders, after which the project would be executed.

The state government said that the Irrigation department has enough land for construction of the expressway, which would pave way for an easy and comfortable transport from UP to Delhi. The state government is in the process of entering into an agreement with the Uttarakhand government for constructing the road between Purkazi and Haridwar.

The said expressway has been conceptualised by an 11-member committee headed by industrial development commissioner with principal secretaries of various departments like housing, urban development, irrigation, public works department, finance and planning being its members.
