NIA forming team to send to US for questioning Headley

With the United States government conveying that India would be able to obtain access to David Coleman Headley to question him in a properly constituted judicial proceeding - either pre-trial or during an inquiry or trial - the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is constituting a team of officials to be sent to the US for the same. Headley recently pleaded guilty for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes,
Sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the team that will be sent to the US will comprise officials from the NIA, MHA, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other security agencies.
While Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has already directed NIA and other agencies concerned to "quickly prepare the documents necessary to start a judicial proceeding in which Indian authorities could require Headley to answer questions and/or to testify", a greater clarity on the mode of access provided to Indian investigators is expected to emerge in the days to come. Indian sleuths, sources said, would prefer to question Headley across the table.
