Akshaye Tritiya, falling on the third day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha of the traditional Hindu calendar, is one of the four most auspicious days of the year for Hindus.
The word Akshaye, a Sanskrit word, literally means one that never diminishes, and the day is believed to bring good luck and success.
It is widely celebrated in all parts of India by different sections of the society irrespective of their religious faith and social grouping.
The day is particularly considered auspicious for buying long term assets like gold and silver, including ornaments made of the same; diamond and other precious stones; and the real estate.
The legend states that any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya shall continue to grow and bring prosperity. Hence, it is normal to see many of the new ventures, like starting a business, ground breaking for construction etc on the Akshaya Tritiya Day.
The day is also traditionally celebrated as the birth day of the Hindu sage Parashurama, the sixth avatar (incarnation) of the God Vishnu.
In 2009, Akshaya Tritiya falls on 27 April.
According to Hindu mythology, on this day the Treta Yuga began; and the Ganges River, the most holy and sacred river of India, descended to the earth from the heaven.
The Sun and Moon are astrologically believed to be at their most exalted equal brightness on this day. The brightness is at its best at the west coast of India.
Goa and Konkan regions, even today, are referred to as Parusurama Kshetra.
The day gains more importance when it falls on a Monday or under Rohini Star. A dip in the Ganges on this day is considered to be very auspicious. Akshaya Tritiya is also called Navanna Parvam.
The pujas we have to perform on Akshaya Tritiya are as under: Kubera Lakshmi Puja This puja has to be performed on this day only. The puja should commence in the morning and end in the evening. From the next day onwards, one has to perform the puja regularly for 108 times by reciting the moola mantra. A photo of Goddess Lakshmi Devi along with Sudarsana Kubera Yantra could be used for the puja. Light with pure ghee should be used. Also light dhoop sticks with Kumkum and turmeric can be used.

Know about super over, super over in t20, super over rules, super over ipl, super over in ipl
Super Over is a new and exciting concept in cricket.
It was first timed tried in a 20-20 match between New Zealand and West Indies.
Super Over is similar to penalty shoot-out that we see in some of the other sports.
In case of the tie between two teams in 20-20 match, the match is decided with one over by each team.
The team winning in that over is declared as the match winner. This way all the matches ends up with a result and no-old boring match ties.In the first ever match decided by Super Over,
Iin the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders score tied at 150 in 20 overs. According to the IPL rules, the match had to be decided by Super Over. The first over was bowled by Kamran Khan of Rajasthan Royals and he had given 15 runs of that over. Chris Gayle hit some good fours in that over. Rajasthan Royal had to made 16 runs to win the match and they send Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja to bat. Yusuf Pathan finished the match quickly in four balls and by hitting some big shots against Ajanta Mendis, the bowler who bowled him earlier in the match.

Can a single individual make a difference?
Read below from the site http://www.arunbhatiaelect.com/know/arun-bhatia-bio.html to know that yes, a single individual can do it provided you support him.
This bio-data is a three decade long story of attempting to enforce honesty in a corrupt third world bureaucracy. Almost from the moment of joining service (IAS) it became clear that the real enemy was the establishment in India. I paid the price of denial of promotion, frequent transfers (26 transfers in as many years of service in India), numerous charges and enquiries, bad assessment reports, ridicule by peers, seniors and subordinates, lack of support when giant offenders like Glaxo or senior officers and politicians were prosecuted by me, ugly threats from the Bombay land mafia and so on. See the section on CORRUPTION FIGHTS. But there was another side also. I made friends with good people outside the system who stood by me and was able to help those being oppressed by corrupt officials. Awareness about corruption was enhanced, many were punished. Unfortunately, many were protected. When things became too hot with Chief Ministers gunning for me I managed to get a break by being selected by the United Nations for assignments. This happened in 1984 after I lodged criminal cases against builders and officials as Collector, Bombay; then in 1994 when I closed the Glaxo factory in Bombay and began the inspection of the Nasik factory as Commissioner, Food and Drugs; and again in 1999 when I prosecuted the reigning Chief Secretary and corrupt officials of the Revenue Department and the Pune Corporation. Some might say that this picture is too black. But if we agree that generally the country is corrupt and mismanaged then it won't do to say that only the IAS is honest. More accurate it is to say that the top echelons lead and facilitate the corruption. In 2004 I contested the parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Pune and received over 60,000 votes without any infrastructure or organisational support and without adequate time. This time things will be different. Honest Indians will get this country back.

Summary Of Work ExperienceManagement experience (Asia, Africa) in United Nations multi-disciplinary rural development projects included monitoring, report writing, training, liaising with NGOs and national governments and the formulation of funding proposals for UN agencies. In India, appointments were at secretariat and field levels and in rural and urban local bodies. Work pertained to physical and social infrastructure (watershed improvement, health etc.), rural employment, tribal development, land reforms, anti-poverty schemes, famine relief, drought recovery, resettlement of urban slums, project displaced persons and political refugees, and governance reform. There was a focus on creating mechanisms for client participation in planning, execution and monitoring. Detected wide spread corruption. But the continuous effort to combat corruption met with limited success in the long term. Main areas of interest :
Governance
Gender
Rehabilitation
Poverty
Social Mobilisation
Appointments In The United Nations ( Long Term )
1999-2001 : CONSULTANT, UNOPS, (United Nations Office for Project Services), Asia Office, KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia.Supervision and evaluation of multi-disciplinary rural development projects in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh, Laos and Vietnam financed by IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development of the United Nations). As Team Leader, prepared monitoring and supervision reports, recommendations etc. for the UN and the national Governments. The projects covered minor irrigation, watershed improvement, forestry, micro-credit, income generation, agricultural extension, animal husbandry, rural employment, gender mainstreaming, social mobilisaton and health service delivery. The emphasis was on development of participatory methodologies in planning and project implementation.
1994-96: CTA (CHIEF TECHNICAL ADVISER) (LAOS)Worked as the CTA in the Xiengkhouang Highland Development Programme. This programme comprised of three projects which were supervised/managed by me. The main project, funded by IFAD, covered crop, irrigation, livestock and credit sectors. The other two related to rural development (health, education, water supply) and labour intensive road construction. These were funded by UNDCP (United Nations Drug Control Programme). The main functions pertained to preparation of budgets and work plans, procurement of supplies/equipment, report writing, monitoring, liaising with the Government and UN funding agencies and co-ordination/supervision of six international experts. A certificate was given by the Government of Laos for good work.
1985-1988: PROJECT ADVISER (BOTSWANA)Worked for three years as the Project Adviser in an IFAD funded project for small farmers in Botswana (Arable Lands Development Programme). Provided management support to the National Project Co-ordinator.
Short Term United Nations Assignments As a Consultant
August 1991: MaldivesWorked as a UNDP/OPS consultant to expedite implementation of the IFAD-funded Atolls Credit and Development Banking Project, Maldives, and assist the project to prepare the Annual Work Plan.
February, 1992: BangladeshWorked as a UNOPS consultant for a Follow-up Mission for the Special Assistance Project for Cyclone Affected Rural Households in Bangladesh. The main concerns were to identify implementation bottlenecks and recommend instruments to overcome them.
March, 1992: MaldivesWorked as a UNDP/OPS consultant to supervise the Atolls Credit and Development Banking Project, Maldives.
December, 1992: LaosWorked as a UNDP/OPS consultant for reviewing an IFAD funded Rural Credit Project in Laos. Assisted the Project to develop an M and E Plan.
October, 1993: LaosWorked as a UNDP/OPS consultant for using PRA methods to help the Rural Credit Project in Laos to define the poor and for assisting the Government in preparing the loan withdrawal applications.
October, 1994: MyanmarParticipated on behalf of UNOPS, in a Project Formulation Mission for Myanmar for the second phase of the Human Development Initiatives Programme.
Appointments In India
2002: Commissioner, Tribal Research and Training Institute, Pune, Maharashtra.Published reports on malnutrition related child deaths, and implementation of schemes pertaining to watershed development, small dam construction, financial assistance to tribal women, distribution of agricultural inputs, income generation, resettlement of project displaced persons etc. These were critical of government functioning and exposed a high level of corruption, wasteful deployment of resources and poor monitoring and evaluation.
1999: Commissioner, Pune Municipal CorporationWorked as the Chief Executive of a municipal body covering a population of 3 million. The concentration was on curbing corruption, introducing good/participatory governance and transparency (mainly in terms of giving citizens access to official records pertaining to resource allocation, expenditure, permissions for land use etc.), and diverting funds to priority areas like urban slums and public health. Prosecuted sitting Chief Secretary (the head bureaucrat in the state) for corruption in awarding road contracts. This predictably resulted in a premature transfer but citizens approached the Bombay High Court in a public interest litigation defeating the government and reversing the government order. The Chief Justice, on 13.4.1999, in Writ Petition 1395 of 1999 observed that "the decision to transfer Bhatia, in the facts of the present case, is so outrageous that it defies all logic and any moral standard. No reasonable person could have arrived at such a decision. We wish to emphasise that during the present days when, unfortunately, corruption and dishonesty are at their peak, honesty and action as per law deserve a pat, rather than punishment. The transfer of Bhatia, in our view, is in the nature of punishment".
1997-99: Divisional Commissioner, Pune.Supervised and co-ordinated work in five districts. Focused on empowerment of women by entering their names in land ownership records, on providing women access to judicial remedies, on the re-settlement of households displaced by irrigation projects, on waging a losing battle against corruption etc. Conducted enquiries and lodged prosecutions regarding corruption in urban bodies, government departments and the system of rural land management. 102 talathis and circle officers were trapped in cheating cases but I was transferred. Supervised the preparation of multi-sector annual plans for each district.
1993-94: Managing Director, Maharashtra State Co-operative Marketing Federation.
1993: Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra State. Most of the country's pharmaceutical industry is located in Maharashtra State. Drug quality in the market was monitored and action taken against the spurious drug business in numerous cases. Took action against drug companies for manufacture of or involvement in the trade of spurious drugs. Glaxo was defeated in the High Court.
1992: Secretary to Government, Social Welfare Department.
1988-1991: Additional Commissioner, Nagpur Division
1981: Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development
1977-1983 (excluding 1981): District Collector (Satara, Dhulia, Raigad, Bombay)
1973-1976: Director of Relief and Rehabilitation for Bangladesh Refugees (Chandrapur)
1971: Chief Executive in the local self-government body (Zilla Parishad) in the District (Osmanabad) Publications: Some of the reports prepared during the tenure as the Commissioner, Tribal Research and Training Institute, Maharashtra, in 2002, were -
Resettlement of Persons Displaced by Irrigation Projects
Schemes for Income Generation and Distribution of Agricultural Inputs
The Truth about Malnutrition Child Deaths
Mismanagement in residential schools financed by the government and run by NGOs (many with political linkages)

Which is my new constituency? Where will I get my voter ID card from? How can I correct my name in the voter list?
Queries like these, which run into about 6,000 every day, are literally raining at the help-line centre set up by the election authorities in India’s Tech hub Bangalore, which votes Thursday.
The 24X7 helpline number 22228888 started April 10 will receive calls till polling ends Thursday. The helpline located at Yeshwanthpur is manned by 100 people.
The helpline has been exclusively set up for voters of Bangalore Central, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore South and Bangalore North constituencies.
“Within two days of starting the helpline, we have started getting around 6,000 calls a day. Right from confused voters to government employees, who have been deputed on election duty, we’re flooded with calls,” Darshan Chinnappa, director of Trans Act BPO Service India Pvt. Ltd., told IANS.
The helpline is a collaborative effort of Karnataka election authorities, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) and Trans Act BPO Service India Pvt. Ltd.
Queries being addressed include voters’ ID cards, mistakes in names, address or age and the constituencies the callers belong to and their polling booths post-delimitation.
“With areas being re-configured after delimitation, a recurring question that voters are asking is about the status of their constituency and where their vote falls,” said Chinnappa.
After delimitation, the new Bangalore Central constituency was created and Kanakapura constituency has become Bangalore Rural.
Voters appreciated the utility of the help-line, saying it had helped them a lot.
“The centre helped me clear my doubts regarding the re-figuring of my constituency and our status after the delimitation,” said Senthil R., a resident of Gandhinagar, which has now been incorporated into Bangalore Central from Bangalore North.
Moreover, Karnataka State Human Rights Council (KSHRC) in association with the Karnataka election authorities and the Karnataka police April 15 launched a 24X7 helpline where voters can report any illegal practices by dialling 080-32989007.
S.K. Vivekananda, KSHRC state president said: “Any illegal and unconstitutional practices observed by our team will be immediately brought to the notice of returning officers of the respective areas.”
“The public if they come across any sort of illegal practices can inform us and we would immediately take the issue to the Election Commission,” he added. This facility will function till April 24.

An unknown blogger who claims to be a KKR team member is bent on letting the cat out of the bag all the time.
The blogger - calling himself Fake IPL Player - is sure he’ll never be a part of the playing XI.
"But, there’s one thing I do very well. Serve drinks. And that’s what I am expecting do in South Africa," he writes.
Evidently, he’s doing much more. The day begins with posts on what KKR did at the breakfast table to what Khan had to say to his team, who listened, who smirked, what the coach did the whole day, how’s Ganguly coping with lost captaincy and of course, what the rest of the teams and their players have been up to.
The blogger uses names coined by him to refer to these people. So the pieces are about "our megalomaniac owner", Badshah d****, Coachie, Skipper (Brendon McCullum), Calypso King (Chris Gayle), Lord Almighty or Lordie (a former skipper) and fast bowlers Kaan Moolo and Little John. T
hen there are non-KKR personalities like a commentator, Kishen Kanhaiyya, a star batsman, Prince of Patiala and a pacer, Appam Ch*****, among others.

The recommendations of the Fifth Punjab Pay Commission (FPPC) constituted by the state government would lead to an additional burden of Rs 2,050 crore per annum for serving the employees and Rs 650 crore for pensioners on the state exchequer.
Further, there would be an additional burden of payment of arrears — Rs 3,450 crore for serving employees and Rs 1,350 crore for pensioners — as the commission had recommended revised pay scales from January 1, 2006.
FPPC chairman SK Tuteja submitted the recommendations on Monday. The Punjab government did not implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission as the state had constituted its own commission.
The commission stated that all recommendations should be implemented in whole as partial implementation would bring in anomalies and inconsistencies. The average increase is around 27 per cent and the commission also recommended increasing the retirement age for all employees from 58 to 60.
The commission also recommended that teachers, nurses, constabulary be paid higher scales and a person stagnating at the maximum of any pay band for more than one year continuously be placed in the immediate next higher pay band without any change in the grade pay.
In 2008-09, Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal presented a revenue deficit of Rs 1,000.18 crore. The Budget for the year 2009-10 would be announced after the elections.
It also recommended uniform annual increment of three percent, continuing the present system of dearness allowance on central pattern, five percentage points increase in house rent allowance for all areas in Punjab, rural area allowance to continue at 6 per cent, employees allowed to encash 10 days of leave at the time of availing LTC with a maximum of 60 days during the entire career.

Tech Mahindra, a joint venture between British Telecom and the Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra, stands to win control of Satyam Computer Services after a bid that values the fraud-damaged company at $1.2 billion.
Tech Mahindra was the highest bidder for Satyam, with a 58 rupee, or $1.16, per share bid, for 31 percent of the company, Satyam said Monday. The offer beats a bid from the Indian engineering firm Larsen & Toubro, which already owns a 12 percent stake in Satyam.
Mahindra Ltd. (TechM) formerly known as Mahindra British Telecom (MBT) is a joint venture between Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) and British Telecommunications plc (BT), UK with M&M(Mahindra and Mahindra) holding 44% and BT holding 39% of the equity. Tech Mahindra has its headquarters at Pune, India. Tech Mahindra has grown rapidly to become the 6th largest software exporter in India (Nasscom, 2007) and 2nd largest Telecom Software Provider in India (Voice & Data, 2007). It has more than 24000 employees.
With its core strength in providing Telecom Solutions, Tech Mahindra provides a wide variety of services ranging from IT Strategy and Consulting to Systems Integration, Application Development & Maintenance, BPO, Infrastructure Management and Product Engineering. Tech Mahindra is ISO 9001:2000 certified and is assessed at SEI-CMMi Level 5 and SEI-PCMMi Level 5. Tech Mahindra is also BS7799 certified across all development centers.
Some of its largest clients are BT, AT&T, Alcatel-Lucent & O2. Significant portion of revenues comes from UK, but the company is aggressively expanding in other major economies like US, Continental Europe, ANZ, Canada & Middle East. However dependency on its single largest client, BT, from which it derives 65% of its revenue is considered by analysts to be the biggest challenge for the company.
Through a subsidiary, it has emerged victorious in Satyam sell-off, a company probably two times its size in number of people.
Tech Mahindra emerges highest bidder to acquire Satyam
Ending the three-month ordeal of about 50,000 employees, Tech Mahindra on Monday emerged as a top bidder with an offer of Rs 58 a share for a 31 per cent stake in beleaguered Satyam Computer, beating a strong rival L&T.
Tech Mahindra would acquire the stake in an all-cash deal, followed by an open offer for a 20 per cent stake to take management control of the company.
No immediate comment could be obtained from either Tech Mahindra or L&T.
After evaluating the bids, the government-appointed board of Satyam Computer today announced that "its Board of Directors has selected Venturbay Consultants Private Limited, a subsidiary controlled by Tech Mahindra Limited as the highest bidder to acquire a controlling stake in the Company, subject to the approval of the Hon'ble Company Law Board."
The Company was administered by a new Board appointed pursuant to the orders of the CLB dated January 9, 2009. The process to select a strategic investor has reached this significant stage within three months of the new Board’s first meeting.
"On behalf of all Satyamites and their families, we congratulate Tech Mahindra on being the highest bidder. The selection of the highest bidder, in a fair, open and transparent process, signals a new stage for the Company in its progress towards stabilization and growth," Satyam said in an announcement.

Maruti A-Star is now on the second spot. Maruti Alto and Hyundai i10 are at the third spot.
Maruti has been leading the charts for years now with their highly efficient models.

After more than a year’s wait, the Nano is finally on display in Tata Motors’ showrooms. With the basic model being offered at the originally promised Rs 1 lakh, it’s the price tag that makes this car so attractive. If you are among prospective Nano buyers, here’s what you need to know about buying the car. Get-set-go
Applications for the Nano are being sold in Tata Motors dealerships, the Tata group retail outlets such as Croma and Westside and at branches of State Bank of India (SBI). You’ll have to shell out Rs 300 (as much as your college application form?), to apply for Nano. You can save Rs 100, if you choose to book the car online.
Money paid for the application form is non-refundable, though you may get ‘Nano’ merchandise in return. You are required to submit filled-in forms with SBI, the exclusive booking agent for the car, only during April 9-25. The booking process
Along with the application form, you need to pay the booking money, which ranges, for the three Nano variants, from Rs 95,000 to Rs 1,40,000. If you can afford to pay the entire booking money at one go, you need to draw a demand draft favouring “Tata Motors Limited.-A/c Tata Nano”. But on the other hand, if you don’t want to lock in this sum upfront, you can always seek help from banks.
Tata Motors has tied up with 15 banks, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India and United Bank of India, as preferred financiers for the Nano. On your availing of a loan from these banks, let’s say SBI, the booking amount that you have to shell out gets reduced to Rs 2,999; the rest will be be footed by the bank. Allotment Process
Allotment will commence after 60 days from the closure of booking. Initially the car will be allotted to only one lakh applicants (at the promised price) selected on a random computerised basis. The others have an option to either continue with the booking or cancel it. Those who choose to retain their booking deposit will be eligible for interest on their deposit.
However, note that this interest will be paid only from the date when Tata Motors announces the second set of allotments. The interest rate will be at 8.5 per cent (compounded annually) for a retention period between one and two years and at 8.75 per cent for a retention period of more than two years.
What if you decided to avail of financial assistance but your application has been not accepted in the first round of allotment?
This matter remains to be sorted out between banks and Tata Motors. If you still want to buy the Nano, banks say that you will be given an option to pay the bank the remaining booking amount and join the waiting list with the deposit amount. You can also simply choose to opt out.Delivery
Though it’s a well known fact that Tata Motors currently has the capacity to produce just 50,000 cars this year, the company promises that it will commence the delivery process from July 2009. It has also promised that the first one lakh cars will be delivered by March 2010.
So if you’ve decided to wait for the second phase of delivery, then committing funds to this car is something like putting your money into a fixed deposit scheme.
While a deposit with a public sector bank may fetch you interest rates ranging between 8 and 9.5 per cent for two years, the Nano “deposit” offers you between 8.5 and 8.75 per cent for the same period. Financing a Nano
There are 15 preferred financiers to exclusively fund loans for the Tata Nano, out of which only a few banks have as yet finalised their product offers. Take SBI’s scheme, for instance. You’ve got to pay Rs 2,999 to book the car through the bank. If you bag the ‘allotment’ in the first round, then SBI will chip in to cover 100 per cent of the booking amount (customers aren’t required to pay any margin money). Given SBI’s loan rates of 11.5 to 11.75 per cent; the EMI (equated monthly instalments) works out approximately to Rs 1,850 for a month for a six-year loan.
If you are to avail of a loan from Bank of India, you will spend about Rs 1,800 a month for the Nano, as EMI. But in this case, you’ll need to pay 5 per cent margin money to avail of the facility which roughly works out to Rs 4,750. United Bank of India is offering loan at 10 per cent interest.
To avail of this scheme, the bank charges just the processing fees (Rs 1,000) at the time of booking and will advance 100 per cent of the booking amount.
If you’re lucky to be allotted Nano in the first phase, your EMI payment will be Rs 1,760. But even if you’re not, you will still have to pay the bank the interest costs for the booking period. Maintenance cost
But remember, the EMI is just one of the “costs” of owning a Nano. If you’re upgrading from a two-wheeler, don’t forget to factor in higher running expenses on items such as fuel cost and replacements. Well, the company claims that Nano (under test drive conditions) offers a mileage of 21.6 km to a litre. Adjusting for Indian roads, motor reviewers optimistically expect the car to manage 15-17 km to a litre of petrol. This would be more than what other small cars such as Alto or Santro offer (11-14 km kilometres a litre). Nano has no diesel or CNG variants.
Being a rear engine model, Nano offers no boot space. So if you’re looking to make those long distance trips, you may need to fit in a luggage carrier and that would amount to an extra cost. Nano has just one wiper as against two or three in other cars. Nano also offers tubeless tyres that give lower rolling resistance.Go for it?
When compared to other small cars, Nano does seem a good bet strictly in terms of cost. Be it on EMIs or maintenance costs, even the high-end version of Nano is cheaper by 30-40 per cent when weighed against Santro and Alto. But if the car aims to capture the market space of two wheelers, it may still be a more expensive option.
You can pick a stylish bike that promises satisfactory on-road performance in terms of mileage and annual maintenance for Rs 35,000 to Rs 55,000; but then, Nano may carry some premium for a safe and
comfortable car ride.

Get loan for Tata Nano and dont pay interest for 3 months
In a move that will benefit loan seekers of the Nano, Bank of India on Thursday said it has devised a scheme under which auto loan seekers will be granted a three-month moratorium on interest and principal payment.
The scheme, meant for existing customers, will also not recover any upfront interest from the borrower.
"The loan is highly beneficial to people who will get the allotment and delivery of vehicle as it shall be charging a floating rate of interest of 10.25 per cent with repayment period less than 36 months," Bank of India said in a release.
Borrowers will be charged 10.75 per cent between 3-6 years, the lowest rate on auto finance levied by banks," it said.
"On booking loan, it shall charge 12 per cent fixed rate of interest only till delivery of the vehicle. Booking loan may be for a short period of 90 days only and delivery period as declared by Tata Motors," it said.
Vehicle loans are for a maximum period of six years, at a rate of interest between 10.25 per cent to 10.75 per cent per annum, the lender said.
