Riga: The Amber Coast sanatorium, located in the Latvian seaside resort of Jurmala, features a dacha where Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev would greet his guests. A clock with a hammer-and-sickle pendulum ticks in the corner, just as it did during the Breznhev era; a portrait of Lenin stares down from the wall. Now, nearly 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, parties of a different kind make use of this residence in the former Soviet republic. The dacha attracts patrons interested in re-experiencing the atmosphere of the Soviet era, tapping into a burgeoning nostalgia for what some, in these hard economic times, regard as a more stable and secure bygone age. In the dacha's basement is a private cinema, sauna and swimming pool, while the first floor contains bedrooms and a full office -- complete with 'nuclear emergency' telephones. The ground floor has a large dining hall, a library stocked with Marx and Lenin and a lecture room with a podium -- ideal for speeches to the Communist Party congress. Anyone with the necessary cash can follow in the footsteps of Politburo members and enjoy authentic Soviet cuisine and entertainment. Guests can even have 1970s news bulletins shown on the period television sets. 'We get visitors from Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom as well as locals, including private parties and companies,' says Victoria Tjamolova, who works in the main sanatorium building, a minute's walk away. Some stay in the dacha for a single night, while others emulate Brezhnev and his friends, who would stay for weeks at a time. In a curious hangover of the Soviet period that ended nearly 20 years ago, the sanatorium, known in Russian as Yantarny Bereg, retains a direct business link to the Kremlin. 'This sanatorium was built for the people who worked in the Soviet president's office, and we still belong to the Russian president's office,' says director Oleg Baransky, whose business card bears the double-headed eagle of the Russian Federation. But if nostalgia is one of the attractions of the Amber Coast today, it was the Baltic republics' status as the most western part of the Soviet Union that was its claim to fame during Communist rule. The third-largest resort in the Soviet Union after Yalta and Sochi, Jurmala was regarded as especially chic. 'In Soviet times Jurmala was very special. People from Russia came here as if they were really going abroad,' says Gunta Uspele, director of Jurmala's tourist information department. 'Latvia seemed more like a part of Europe, and people in the USSR thought of coming to Latvia like coming to France or Italy. The architecture, the food, the fashions were all much more modern. On the other hand, people felt at home because everyone could speak Russian.' Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, some 500,000 people from all walks of life earned 'holiday vouchers' to gain access to 15 large sanatoriums in Jurmala. Which one you were sent to depended upon your job and status within the state hierarchy. As the sanatorium of the Kremlin, the Amber Coast was for senior government staff. At the other end of Jurmala's 30-km-long golden beach, the Belorusiya Sanatorium is just as impressive as the Amber Coast and, as the name suggests, catered to visitors from Belarus. It's a trend that continues to this day, with three-quarters of visitors travelling from Latvia's southern neighbour. Officials at the Belorusiya hope that a reputation for high-quality treatments will one day draw a larger share of foreign visitors in the niche market for 'medical tourism'. 'The Belorusiya has always been regarded as providing the highest standards and was one of the most privileged sanatoriums,' says administrator Elena Lopatko, speaking in her office beneath a portrait of Belorussian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka. 'Many of our staff started in the 1970s and have stayed with us all that time.' Almost two decades since the collapse of the Soviet Union, just three sanatoriums remain in Jurmala, the others having closed because of competition from resorts in Estonia, the Czech Republic and Poland. But the Russian influence remains strong. This influence is underlined every summer, during Jurmala's glitzy New Wave song contest. The New Wave event, successor to the Jurmala Contest for Young Soviet Popular Music Performers, is a brash entertainment extravaganza, complete with VIP parties and private jets. It makes Eurovision look shy and retiring. Showcasing pop singers mainly from across the former Soviet Union, along with a smattering of old-time favourites such as Alla Pugacheva and Raimonds Pauls, shows are beamed live across Eastern Europe and Asia, attracting millions of viewers. Some Latvians resent the influx of rich Russians, but New Wave is seen as a positive phenomenon in Jurmala given the current economic crisis, says Uspele of Jurmala's tourist information centre. Latvia's recession is the deepest of any EU state. 'The inhabitants and the (city) understand that (the song festival) brings a lot of money and is a big advertisement for the city around the world. It provides jobs and has helped to make Jurmala better known in the east than either Latvia (itself) or Riga,' Uspele says. Source: Samay Live

Krishna Janmashtami (Devanagari कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी) , also known as "Krishnashtami","Saatam Aatham" ,"Gokulashtami", "Ashtami Rohini", "Srikrishna Jayanti", "Sree Jayanthi" or sometimes merely as "Janmashtami", is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, an avatar of god Vishnu.
Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the eighth day, Ashtami tithi, of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhaadra in the Hindu calendar, when the Rohini Nakshatra (Western star name: Aldebaran) is ascendant. Rasa lila or dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan, and regions following Vaishnavism in Manipur.
The festival falls between August mid and September mid months of the Gregorian calendar.
The ritual is to fast the previous day (Saptami, seventh day), which is followed by a night-long vigil commemorating the birth of Krishna at night, and his immediate removal by his father Vasudeva to a foster-home for safe-keeping.
At midnight, the deity of the infant Krishna is bathed, placed in a cradle and worshipped. The fast is completed after aarti, a special prayer.
In the early morning, ladies draw patterns of little children's feet outside the house with rice-flour paste, walking towards the house. This symbolizes the entry of the infant Krishna into his foster-home. This is performed to recreate incidents from the life of Krishna and commemorate his love for Radha.
While the Rasa Lila recreates the youthful Krishna's day, Govinda from all those present, teams of young men form human pyramids to reach the pot and break it.
The festival is thus celebrated with great joy and communal togetherness by one and all.

Anjaneyulu (Ravi) is a straight forward guy with a care a damn attitude. He works with a TV channel and one day he meets Anjali (Nayan). It is love at first sight for him, his life takes a turn when an unforeseen incident happens for his parents Krishnamurthy (Nasser), Lakshmi (Vinaya). How he deals with that issue forms rest of the story line.
As a part of his profession, Anjaneyulu changes his name as Pavan and enters as sleeping cell in the group of some anti social elements. There is a connection between his profession and personal life from then. The suspense is revealed in second half and real saga continues from then.
Performances Ravi Teja: It is Ravi’s show all the way and his energetic performance keeps the tempo high. He has become versatile with his expressions and his emotions are quite good. The screen presence of Ravi Teja has been growing strong with each passing movie of his.
Nayantara: She didn’t have much to do in this one but then there is not much of oomph show from her end, Nayan could have checked the hair stylist and the make up artistes, she looked quite dull in this one. Not much for her to do in terms of performance. Radio Mirchi Sowmya's dubbing for Nayantara is perfectly in sync and elevated the role.
Others: Brahmanandam made his presence felt, Jeeva was neat, Srinivas Reddy was good, Jayaprakash Reddy was regular, Sonu Sood flaunted his muscles but not much scope to perform for him. M S Narayana provided few laughs, Nasser was elegant, Prakashraj was good, Raja Ravindra was normal, the others did their bit to contribute.
Technical departments: The film has been presented decently but it is the narrative which kept things going. The dialogues were witty and sensible wherever required, script was written neatly, screenplay was apt. Two songs were good, background score was okay, cinematography was up to the standard. Editing was crisp. Costumes were alright but not good for Nayantara, art department was neat.
Highlights:
Ravi Teja’s energy levels Comedy of Brahmanandam Pace of the film Disappointments:
Nayantara’s make up Item song on Kim Sharma with huge noises Analysis The film has got nothing new to offer but one can see traces of Puri Jagannadh in it, though the formula is old, it was narrated keeping the audience engaged. The first half just whizzes past leaving no idle moment. The second half slows down due to the sentiment and melodrama angle and unwanted songs but overall, the film has got enough ingredients to take it to the success mark.
Puri’s influence is totally carried on Parasuram in this film. He has all energies to match the requirements of a star director. He proved with this film that he can handle big heroes, big budget, big comedy and big action. And there are influences of Shankar on his too, especially while dealing with some funeral scenes in second half.
After Kick, again Anjaneyulu has something for masses and action-comedy film lovers Source:http://www.greatandhra.com/ganews/viewnews.php?id=15410&cat=1&scat=12

Country’s direct tax laws are all set to become ‘saral’ for taxpayers. The government would unveil the new Direct Tax Code that seeks to simplify and rationalise the tax provisions.
The new code that aims to change the face of how direct taxes in the country will replace the current Income-tax Act that was enacted about 50 years ago in 1961. It would provide for tax calculators—allowing taxpayers to calculate their own taxes, explain a tax provision in simple language.
Experts say the new code is likely to simplify the rules so that they become transparent and easily understood by both the tax collector and the tax payer in this category. The proposed tax code is also expected to include new measures to prevent abuse of some special bilateral taxation treaties between India and some nations.

Since there is much ballyhoo about swine flu worldwide, swine flu and Ayurveda has also become a buzz word among health care providers and their patients. Ayurveda and swine flu is becoming one of the most sought after topics since Ayurveda is known for its effectiveness against stubborn diseases. However, an Ayurvedic approach to swine flu is not described in Ayurvedic texts directly; one can surely find some signs and symptoms of swine flu. You can find s-flu treatment in Ayurveda that helps in relieving the fever, sore throat, body ache, malaise, chills, debility and a typical flu like symptoms. Ayurveda describes flu as the result of reduced immunity that is further weakened due to microorganisms' attack. Ayurvedic treatment for spine flu includes the herbal medicines that help in boosting the immunity while enlightening the digestive fire. In Ayurveda, health ailments like swine flu are because of weakened immunity that the body cannot withstand against the attack of disease causing germs. Ayurveda, as always, believes in strengthening the body systems that fight and win the battle against H1N1 Virus. This is done by prescribing various digestive fire strengthening herbs such as Guduchi (licorice), Tulasi (Holy Basil), Sahadevi, Neem (Indian Margosa Tree), Shunthi (ginger), Pippali (pepper) etc. Once the digestive fire is corrected, medicines such as Triphala, Rasna, Eranda, Guggulu can be prescribed to relieve the symptoms. The whole body is to be cleansed and that is why, a person should be on a very light diet. The lukewarm water is to be supplied to keep digestive fire alive. Junk, canned, packed food is to be avoided strictly. Ayurveda for s-flu describes adding spices such as cumin seeds, asafetida, turmeric, coriander etc that help in boosting the digestion and also helps in cleansing the intestines -making them free of toxic material. Elderberry extract, Echinacea extract and Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is likely to give good and satisfactory results. In case of stuffy nose, the oil of eucalyptus (nilgiri in Ayurveda) is believed to be benefiting. One can have the steam of this oil (by putting a few drops into lukewarm water and then inhaling the steam). This helps in clearing the nasal track and keeps the respiratory tract healthier. Body massage may help but is contraindicated in fever. Taking rest and giving body enough time to fight the microorganisms is a key factor to get faster recovery. Dr. Maulik is an Ayurvedic Physician with Diploma in Healthcare Management and also Certified in Food and Nutrition. Dr. Maulik is also a freelancer and online consultant for Ayurveda and other alternative medicinal therapies. These are few facts about swine flu when discussed with the leading epidemiologists. 1) Swine flu, that is H1N1 flu is not new, first detected in 1987 2) Infective stage of flue is 5 days, 1 day before and 4 days after onset of symptoms 3) The best way to prevent it spreading is asking patient having symptoms of flu like fever cough and running nose to take rest at home for 4 days so he does not transmit it 4) Masks are of limited value if any, in this disease, it can spread through droplets on your skin, through contact etc, and I have seen that the masks in Pune are worn as fashion statement, while walking on road today morning I saw people wearing masks coming out for a morning walk with their dogs!, many wearing masks around their necks, and so on, infact these masks shall act as the vehicles to carry the virus, instead, avoiding crowded places or cinema halls or malls where airconditioners are on, is advisable, because you get recirculated air, where the virus density multiplies 5)Death after H1N1 flu is not common, infact infections like measles is taking toll of thousands more every year, and we are oblivious of the facts. Swine flu is being blown out of proportion by media trying to create hysteria among lay people. 6) Fever accompanied by respiratory distress, should be immediately notified which is likely to be a complication of H1N1 flu 7)The mortality is less than .01 percent of those affected, that means may be one in 10,000 affected is likely to suffer the life loss. 8) If you remember, 2 years ago SARS was blown out of proportion, what happened? Humans develop immunity to the virus, the same is going to happen, we develop immunity in due course of time, the virus is in the air, you can not stop it, our body is already developing the immunity so nothing to panic. We need to take care of children and elderly who have less immunity and do not let them go to crowded places that is all . Curtesey: Dr Deepak Purohit

Symptoms: The first symptoms of swine flu are fever (greater than 100°F or 37.8°C), sore throat, body ache and fatigue. Some patients have also complained about running nose, diarrhoea and vomiting. Persons who have travelled overseas recently should be extra cautious and seek medical help immediately if they have these symptoms. But these symptoms alone would not suggest that a person is infected by Swine Flu, as it can be confirmed only after testing a respiratory specimen, that’s taken from the suspected case within the first four to five days. So it is important to seek medical help if one feels that he/she has flu.

A huge 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the Andaman Islands between India and Myanmar on Tuesday, triggering a tsunami alert across
the Indian Ocean, the US Geological Survey reported. However, no casualty has been reported so far. The quake hit the island at 01:26 am, about 265 kms north of Port Blair city, the IMD said. Tremors were also felt at several places in Chennai. Complaints of cracks in the houses were also received from few places. The epicenter was also around 364 kilometres (226 miles) southwest of the Irriwaddy Delta region of Myanmar which was devastated by a huge cyclone in May last year that left over 138,000 people dead. The USGS said a tsunami watch had been issued for India, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh. Andaman Islands were hit by the 2004 Asian tsunami which was triggered by an earthquake off the Indonesian island of Sumatra and sent giant waves crashing into countries around the Indian Ocean. The 2004 tsunami killed more than 220,000 people, most of them in the northern Indonesian province of Aceh. Thousands of people were also killed in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and India. There was no immediate response from the authorities in India or Myanmar to the latest quake and tsunami alert. The quake appeared to be only around 100 kilometres (62 miles) north of the main land mass of the Andaman Islands. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are some of India' most eastern pieces of territory. Over 350,000 people live in the territory flanked by the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, and it comprises some 572 islands. The Andaman Sea area witnesses frequent earthquakes caused by the meeting of the Indian plate with the Burmese microplate along an area known as the Andaman trench. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/news/india/Tsunami-alert-after-huge-quake-off-India/articleshow/4879574.cms

Also known as the N95 respirator, the N95 mask is a lightweight, nose-and-mouth respirator that can provide some level of protection for the wearer from viruses, including avian flu. The N95 designation is an efficiency rating that means the mask blocks about 95 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns in size or larger. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended the use of N95 masks for protection against the avian flu virus. Source http://www.fao.org/avianflu/en/glossary.html

1. Know what the signs of swine flu are in people. The symptoms look a lot like an ordinary flu and include fever (greater than 100°F or 37.8°C), cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. It is reported that diarrhea and vomiting can also be included with the symptoms of illness. There's no way to tell if you have the swine flu unless a respiratory specimen is taken within the first 4-5 days and sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (or equivalent).
2. Make sure you are in good health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. Consider taking a Vitamin C supplement. The healthier you are, the better your immune system will be at defending your body against a virus.
3. Practice good hygiene. If you sneeze, keep a disposable tissue in front of your mouth, after sneezing or blowing your nose throw the tissue away. Wash your hands often, especially if after blowing your nose/sneezing and before you eat. Use a disinfectant when possible or just use soap and water.
4.Don't share utensils or drinks. In cafeteria settings, it's not uncommon for people to casually share utensils or take a sip from someone else's drink. This should be completely avoided if there is any risk of a flu pandemic.
5. Wear a facemask or respirator as instructed by authorities. If used correctly, facemasks and respirators may help prevent some exposure to flu viruses. However, facemasks should be used along with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing.
