A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it.
Age considers; youth ventures.
Beauty is truth's smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror.
Bigotry tries to keep truth safe in its hand with a grip that kills it.
By plucking her petals, you do not gather the beauty of the flower.
Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.
Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.
Depth of friendship does not depend on length of acquaintance.
Do not say, 'It is morning,' and dismiss it with a name of yesterday. See it for the first time as a newborn child that has no name.
Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time.
Emancipation from the bondage of the soil is no freedom for the tree.
Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man.
Every difficulty slurred over will be a ghost to disturb your repose later on.
Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it.
Facts are many, but the truth is one.
Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.
Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.
From the solemn gloom of the temple children run out to sit in the dust, God watches them play and forgets the priest.
Gray hairs are signs of wisdom if you hold your tongue, speak and they are but hairs, as in the young.
He who is too busy doing good finds no time to be good.
I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can't make it through one door, I'll go through another door - or I'll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present.
I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.
If you shut the door to all errors, truth will be shut out.
In Art, man reveals himself and not his objects.
Let us not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless when facing them.
Let your life lightly dance on the edges of Time like dew on the tip of a leaf.
Life is given to us, we earn it by giving it.
Love does not claim possession, but gives freedom.
Love is an endless mystery, for it has nothing else to explain it.
Love is not a mere impulse, it must contain truth, which is law.
Love is the only reality and it is not a mere sentiment. It is the ultimate truth that lies at the heart of creation.
Music fills the infinite between two souls.
Music fills the infinite between two souls. This has been muffled by the mist of our daily habits.
Nirvana is not the blowing out of the candle. It is the extinguishing of the flame because day is come.
The burden of the self is lightened with I laugh at myself.
The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough.
The flower which is single need not envy the thorns that are numerous.
The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.
The water in a vessel is sparkling; the water in the sea is dark. The small truth has words which are clear; the great truth has great silence.
Those who own much have much to fear.
To be outspoken is easy when you do not wait to speak the complete truth.
Trees are Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.
We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.
We gain freedom when we have paid the full price.
We live in the world when we love it.
What is Art? It is the response of man's creative soul to the call of the Real.
You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.
Your idol is shattered in the dust to prove that God's dust is greater than your idol.

1.All differences in this world are of degree, and not of kind, because oneness is the secret of everything.
2. All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.
3. As different streams having different sources all mingle their waters in the sea, so different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to God.
4. Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.
5.External nature is only internal nature writ large.
6. GOD is to be worshipped as the one beloved, dearer than everything in this and next life.
7. If faith in ourselves had been more extensively taught and practiced, I am sure a very large portion of the evils and miseries that we have would have vanished.
8.If money help a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better.
9.In one word, this ideal is that you are divine.
10.Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin; to say that you are weak, or others are weak.
11.Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest idea, and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.
12. Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
13. That man has reached immortality who is disturbed by nothing material.
14. The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him - that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.
15. The more we come out and do good to others, the more our hearts will be purified, and God will be in them.
16.The Vedanta recognizes no sin it only recognizes error. And the greatest error, says the Vedanta is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, a miserable creature, and that you have no power and you cannot do this and that.
17.The will is not free - it is a phenomenon bound by cause and effect - but there is something behind the will which is free.
18. The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong.
19.Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways, yet each one can be true.
20. We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
21. When an idea exclusively occupies the mind, it is transformed into an actual physical or mental state.
22. Where can we go to find God if we cannot see Him in our own hearts and in every living being.
23. You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.
24. You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.

Sabina Sehgal Saikia, the resident food critic of India’s largest selling English newspaper The Times of India, is still missing, 48 hours after the hostage crisis began at The Taj Mahal hotel in Bombay.
Delhi-based Sabina was in Bombay for the wedding reception of fellow Times editor Bachi Karkaria’s son on Wednesday. She returned to her suite in The Taj early complaining of fatigue, according to a report in the newspaper but has not been heard from since Thursday morning.
“I received the last SMS from her at 0130 hrs IST (Thursday). It her last SMS and she was very worried,” her husband Shantanu Saikia said. “The SMS was sent to Taj’s PRO as well.”
About 20 minutes before that, hotel employees had got an SMS from Sabina saying: ”they are in my bathroom”.
Accordingto one report from Internet Sabina was on the sixth floor of the hotel.
Talking to this newspaper, her husband said that the wing she was staying in was the first to be attacked by the terrorists. The room was among the first ones that caught fire.
She was continuously sending messages to her family and friends. She was hiding under her bed and had closed the lights of her room. Her last message was a frightening one saying “They are in my bathroom”. After this SMS to her husband no call or message got her reply.
Her husband said he tried to call her several times but the phone was switched off.
Mobile telephone records shows that the last signals from her mobile was received from a place named Raigarh .
I pray for her safety.

Bombay firing
A group calling itself the "Deccan Mujahedeen" claimed responsibility for the attacks in India's commercial hub Mumbai that killed more than 60 people, the Press Trust of India says.
The outfit sent emails to various media outlets saying it carried out the attacks across the city, the news agency said.
Another little-known Islamic group, the Islamic Security Force-Indian Mujahedeen, had claimed responsibility for serial blasts last month in India's northeast state of Assam that claimed nearly 80 lives.
Meanwhile, an Indian police official says hostages are being held at two luxury Mumbai hotels and at least 78 people have been killed and 200 have been injured after gunmen opened fire on a crowded train station, hotels and a restaurant popular with tourists.

Chief of the Anti Terrorist Squad Hemant Karkare, who has been in the news lately in connection with ongoing investigations into the Malegaon bomb blasts, is reported to be hurt in the ongoing operation. Details are awaited.
01:50 AM: Krishnakumar reports from the Juhu region that a bomb went off in a taxi that was speeding along the Western Express Highway from Vile Parle towards Andheri, killing two people and injuring two others.
"The taxi exploded and went up in flames as it sped past the traffic island under the flyover at the domestic airport," an eyewitness said on phone. "The vehicle, which was up in flames soon after it crossed the traffic signal, was on the left side. A bystander and a person in the taxi were killed.
Reports indicate that this was perhaps the night's highest-intensity blast. Krishnakumar reports that the taxi's doors were found a distance of 50 meters or more away, and body parts of the victims had been thrown even further.
01:43 AM: At least two suspected terroristswere shot dead minutes earlier at the corner of Mumbai's Chowpatty. Rediff's Vaihayasi Pande-Daniel, who is on the site, reports that the area has been cordoned off and is swarming with police officers; the Skoda is under guard and a cellphone, a jacket, and items of footwear are strewn around the vehicle.
Meanwhile at the Taj Mahal [Images] Hotel, the standoff between police, who have surrounded the hotel, and terrorists who are holed up inside, continues.
A short while ago, power went off in parts of the hotel, adding to the sense of panic and fear. Well known food critic Sabina Sahgal Saikia, who is inside the hotel, told NDTV on phone just now that the guests are terrified, and unaware of just what is happening around them. It is unclear at this point in time whether the power has been turned off by the police as they battle the terrorists.
01:27 AM: Rediff's Vaihayasi Pande Daniel calls in from the Marine Drive region to report that the approaches to the South Mumbai area have been shut down, and that sounds of firing are audible as far away as Mumbai's famed Queen's Necklace stretch, though the source of the firing is unclear.
Meanwhile, a foreign national who managed to escape from the Taj Mahal Hotel, where a state of seige currently exists, told NDTV that armed and masked gunmen were wandering around inside the hotel, looking for people with American or British passports.
The eyewitness account appears to confirm the growing belief among law enforcement circles that this latest attack is aimed directly at foreign nationals -- hence the choice of star hotels as prime targets. They further theorize that automatic weapons are being used rather than bombs in order to orchestrate such targeted mayhem.
Meanwhile, the real dangers of the situation are being exaggerated by a proliferation of rumors. One such that has been aired on a few channels including CNN suggested that firing was taking place at the JW Marriott, another five star hotel in the Juhu region of suburban Mumbai. A source in the hotel however confirmed to Rediff just now that there was no alarm at the hotel, and no incident of any kind had taken place.
12:44 AM: A gun battle is ongoing in the Taj Hotel in Colaba. Within the last ten minutes, a guest at the hotel got word out to CNN via email that a grenade had exploded within the hotel premises just then.
Additional Commissioner of Police AN Roy and other officials confirmed that some armed terrorists are holed up in the iconic hotel.
Police officials said they have no information of a hostage situation; they say guests have been sequestered in safe areas of the hotel, and the police are now engaged in flushing out the terrorists from their hiding place.
Earlier Report: Terror struck the country's financial capital late tonight as coordinate serial explosions and indiscriminate firing rocked eight areas across Mumbai including the crowded CST railway station, two five star hotels--Oberoi and Taj-- leaving 60 persons dead and over 200 injured.
Armed with AK-47 rifles and grenades, a couple of terrorists entered the passenger hall of CST and opened fire and threw grenades, Mumbai General Railway Police Commissioner A K Sharma said. The terror strike which began at 1033 PM at Chhatrapathi Shivaji Terminus(CST), formerly known as the Victoria Terminus(VT), claimed 10 lives in the premises of the station alone, police said.
Three persons were killed in a bomb explosion in a taxi on Mazegaon dockyard road and an equal number were gunned down at Taj Hotel. The victim in the hotel were its employees.
The lobby of the Oberoi hotel was on fire and the hotel evacuated, eyewitnesses said.
Maharashtra DGP A N Roy said tonight's attack in "at least seven places" is a "terror strike." Sharma said 30 persons were injured in the CST incident.
Commandoes were rushed to the CST which wore a deserted look and train services suspended. Some people were injured in the firing in Oberoi hotel, and taken to a nearby hospital in police vans and ambulance.
Firing was also reported in Taj hotel. Firing was reported at Colaba, Nariman Point and near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal, formerly Victoria Terminus and it was still continuing.
Firing was also reported at Cama Hospital in south Mumbai, police said, adding that a blast was reported in a taxi under a flyover in suburban Vile Parle. A bomb went off in a taxi in Mazegaon dockyard road.
According to Ashok Sharma, Commissioner of Police , Railways, "The incident of firing and bomb blast have happened at CST in Mumbai."
He told rediff.com, "Between the platform number two and eight these terrorists are running creating havoc."
He said that they are wearing black dresses and wielding AK 47-type weapons.
Hand grenades thrown at Taj
Two hand grenades were thrown from the Taj Mahal hotel on the policemen who had cordoned off the hotel. Police were evacuating many of the people who had gone for their evening dinner or were the guests at the hotel.
Some dead bodies too were taken out from the hotel and it is not clear how many terrorists have entered the hotel.
Bomb squads have reached hotel to defuse a live bomb that was found near Taj hotel.
The situation is tense and no one is allowed to venture near the hotel. The problem that policemen are facing is that they don't know how many terrorists have entered the hotel and where they are located.
The same is the case with another five star Oberoi hotel located one kilometer away from Taj Mahal hotel where some terrorists have entered and are firing from top.
Terrorists take over police car
Terrorists took over a police car and started firing at passers-by near Metro cinema in South Mumbai. Another terrorist, in a grey vehicle, was nabbed by the police near Chowpatty. The man, who was carrying a fire arm, had been firing at passers-by.

Cooking Thanksgiving dinner can be a fun and memorable experience. If possible get your family and relatives involved in the cooking process and it can be a learning experience for them as well. Start asking someone to chop up some russell potatoes, yellow onions, and bulk carrots. These vegetables will go under the Turkey to keep it up off of the bottom of the pan. The idea is to keep the Turkey out of the drippings which would make it soggy and disgusting if left to cook in.
While someone is chopping those veggies, wash your Turkey inside and out. Make sure you take the giblets out and keep them in the frig for the gravy that you will make later. After washing the Turkey thouroughly, rub it with salt and olive oil. The oil and salt will help the Turkey to cook better as well as give it extra flavor. Some prefer to use butter instead of olive oil, but I like the taste the olive oil gives the turkey and the drippings which you will use for making gravy.
Place the turkey on the vegetables and stuff the Turkey with celery, carrots, parsley, thyme, sage, oregano, and a bay leaf. You won't eat these vegetables and herbs, but they will serve to add flavor to the bird. Get the turkey in the oven at 350 degress. Wash your hands as you have been handling uncooked meat that can make you and your family sick. Plan ahead of time and expect the turkey to take between 4-7 hours depending on how many pounds it is. In the meantime you can start on the other fixings like cranberries.
Fresh cranberries are by far worth the extra effort. It's really not that much extra effort as a matter of fact. Just wash the cranberries and put them in a pan with some water and sugar. Adjust the water to sugar ratio depending on your taste. Usually 1 cup of sugar per 1/2 pound of cranberries is about the right amount. Add enough water to just cover the cranberries in the pot. Cook off the water on low heat until you have a think cranberry sauce and then place it in the frig to serve later. The next course to work on is the stuffing.
I prefer to make the stuffing outside of the Turkey in a 9 by 13 inch pan. I start by browning some onions in butter. Then I add some fresh spinach and garlic. After the spinach has wilted add some stale bread to the pan. While the bread is absorbing the buttery onion / spinach flavor whisk together come half and half, 2 large eggs, salt, and pepper. Transfer the bread, onion, and spinach mixture to the 13 by 9 inch pan and pour the half and half / egg mixture over the top. Sprinkle with italian seasoning and some fresh chopped parsley. You can put this in the frig and wait to cook it in the oven with the turkey for the last hour.
By this time your turkey has been in the oven cooking for about an hour and it is time to begin basting it. Take your baster and suck up the drippings in the bottom of the pan and release them over the top of the turkey. You'll want to do this every half hour until the turkey is done. You will know that the turkey is done when your meat thermometer registers 170 degrees F. I like my turkey well-done at a safe high temperature well beyond the recomended internal safe temperature.

NEW DELHI: India’s 14 state-run oil sector companies’ 55,000 officers plan to go on an indefinite strike beginning December 2 this year, as they are dissatisfied with the quantum of pay revision approved for them by the government after a gap of 10 years.
Loss in crude production due to strike will result in upstream (exploration & production) oil companies losing Rs 225 crore per day, and downstream (refining & marketing) companies losing Rs 900 crore per day, Oil Sector Officers’ Association’s President Amit Kumar told reporters.
The largest explorer and producer Oil and Natural Gas Corp will alone lose Rs 183 crore a day and the largest refiner and marketer Indian Oil Corp will alone lose about Rs 600 crore per day, Kumar said.
The government’s claim of 300% hike in the pay scales of the public sector undertakings’ employees is not true, Kumar told reporters.
“On the contrary, the actual rise is a meagre 30% after a time gap of 10 years,” Kumar said, adding, “In oil sector, around 60% officers are stagnated for a period as long as eight years and few hundred are stagnated since last pay revision… And whatever has been approved, majority of the officers will get stagnated within one year.”
The state-run companies cap the quantum of remuneration for employees at each level. Thus, if an employee has reached the highest payable scale at his/her level, he/she would not get any increment until being promoted. The government claimed to have hugely increased the basic pay of public sector companies’ employees, but it actually merged the 68.8% dearness allowances with the basic pay first and then increased the entire amount by 30%, an oil marketing company’s executive said.
Moreover, the government has reduced rate of increment in pay from 4% per annum (and 6% on promotion) to 3% per year each, the executive said. The association says it wants a special dispensation for the oil sector companies to decide on raising the remuneration for its employees, which was discontinued by the government.
Many of the PSU employees are leaving their organisations and are joining private sector firms at salaries as high as between five and ten times more, Kumar said.

More news:
New Delhi, Nov. 20: Executives of central public sector units have been given pay hikes of 25 to 45 per cent in the middle of Assembly elections. The raise benefiting over 3.7 lakh executives will be implemented with retrospective effect from January 1, 2007.Heads of central enterprises like SAIL and ONGC will see their basic salary go up from Rs 31,500 to Rs 1.25 lakh a month. The new package also offers employees’ stock options (Esops), variable pay and risk rewards. The implementation will be linked to the performance of each PSU.“This is the best-ever package given by any central government to the executives. The entire exercise was based on the premise that the existing disparity between the salaries in the private sector and the PSUs should be minimised as far as practicable,” said Santosh Mohan Dev, the Union minister for public enterprises.Although the basic salary has gone up by an average 67 per cent, the increase in average gross emoluments ranges between 25 and 45 per cent because of adjustments with existing allowances. The gross pay increase is comparable with the package offered to central government employees earlier this year. The PSU executives’ salary is being revised after a gap of 10 years. The wages of workers are revised by each PSU separately through negotiations with labour organisations.Analysts said compared with blue-chip private sector salaries, the PSU pay was not much to write home about. “The difference in pay scale is higher at the top level, compared to the private sector, than at the lower level,” Sushma Errevelles of Talisman Management Services said. However, given that several private companies are planning to tighten belts to cope with a feared downturn, the “safer” PSU jobs are now considered lucrative enough.Besides, the “perks paid by the two sectors cannot really be compared as many PSU perks are intangible such as security of service. But the money value of perks in the private sector is far higher,” the management consultant said.“The hike will help stop the many crossovers we were witnessing to the private sector. Salaries of CMDs (chairmen and managing directors) were as low as Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per month, while even consultants in the private sector were getting Rs 1 lakh a day as fee,” said V.S. Jain, a member of the Public Enterprise Selection Board and a former chairman of SAIL.The extra cash that will go into the pockets of PSU executives is expected to spur demand for consumer durables, automobiles and flats in the many townships spread across the country at a time industry is complaining of flagging sales. The PSUs, which had been bracketed in five categories earlier, have now been reclassified into four — A, B, C and non-profit making or D.The heads and directors of B and C firms get salaries equal to that of director, executive directors and general managers of the A list. For the rest, the pay scale will be the same. D-category PSUs will get a minimum salary hike but not a full revision till they are able to post profits. The salary hikes — expected to cost Rs 9,000 crore a year — will be paid by the PSUs but the government underwrites the pay of loss-making units. However, not everyone is happy, and at least one union has revived a strike threat.Oil Sector Officers’ Association president Amit Kumar said: “The effective pay hike is only about 20 to 25 per cent. The government has not considered much of the demands of the profit-making oil companies. We had earlier deferred an indefinite strike. But we plan to go on strike from December 4.”A cabinet meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, approved the new scales for the 216 operational central PSUs, of which 151 are making profits.psu pay, psu pay revision, pay revision psu, pay revision, cpsu pay revisionhttp://www.telegraphindia.com/1081121/jsp/frontpage/story_10142283.jsp

BREA – Calmer winds Sunday aided firefighters battling wildfires that destroyed hundreds of homes in Southern California, forced thousands of residents to flee and left much of the region under a thick blanket of smoke.
Fires burned in Los Angeles County, to the east in Riverside and Orange counties, and to the northwest in Santa Barbara County. More than 800 houses, mobile homes and apartments were destroyed by fires that have burned more than 34 square miles since breaking out Thursday.
From today's U-T
Hot, dry weather expected to stay put Even areas far away from the flames were affected as poor air quality forced many to stay indoors. Organizers canceled a marathon in Pasadena where 8,000 runners had planned to participate.
Fierce Santa Ana winds that fanned the fires on Saturday weakened Sunday morning, allowing firefighters to set backfires to prevent flames from advancing to hillside neighborhoods.
The most threatening blaze had scorched 10,475 acres in Orange and Riverside counties after erupting Saturday and shooting through subdivisions entwined with wilderness parklands. By mid-day Sunday, multimillion-dollar homes were being threatened in Diamond Bar in Los Angeles County as the fire pushed north.
After midnight, the winds pushed flames dangerously close to a church and adjacent mobile home park in the Olinda Village area north of Yorba Linda but firefighters were able to beat it back. Only one mobile home was lost.
Billy Bagsby, an inmate firefighter with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said the flames suddenly shifted direction around 2 a.m.
“It was like the church was protecting itself,” Bagsby said.
The fire burned 119 homes in the communities of Corona, Yorba Linda and the Anaheim Hills area of Anaheim. In addition, 50 units of an apartment complex burned, Orange County fire spokeswoman Angela Garbiso said.
Apartment resident Melody Ma, 24, said she took her sister to piano lessons Saturday morning, when the fire's smoke appeared to be far away, then found she couldn't return home.
“There's things you can't replace like photos and stuff,” said Ma, bursting into tears in a shelter.
Capt. Leonard Grill, a 20-year veteran of the Riverside County Fire Department, watched for flaring embers in a Yorba Linda neighborhood late Saturday.
“It's gotten worse and worse every year. I can't keep track of them anymore,” Grill said of recent destructive wildfires. “These used to be the out-of-the-ordinary fires, once-in-a-career kind of fires. Now they're every year. “

Students are gathered in the gym as flames have surrounded the building.
The official college website says that no one has been hurt till now.
Updates are being posted on college website till now,but they say they are running on UPS which may not lost for more than 4 hours, there may be no further updates will be coming from Westmont College website after that.
The latest update from College website:
” A natural gas line has broken, forcing the fire department to shut off natural gas to the college. This has brought down our generators. We have between 1/2 hour and 4 hours of UPS left, so may not be able to post further updates through the web site.”
Students inside the Gym may be moved to Red Cross shelter nearby: “Conditions in the area may make it possible now to leave the campus for a Red Cross shelter, but that option is still being explored.”

Martina Mcbride Will Receive Nashville Symphony Harmony Award
Martina McBride has been named the recipient of Harmony Award .
The honor acknowledges those individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and appreciation of music in Nashville.
Previous recipients of the award include Chet Atkins, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, Lyle Lovett, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton and the Judds.
“Martina Macbride” was born in Medicine Lodge, Kansas just outside of Sharon, Kansas, where her parents, Daryl and Jeanne Schiff, owned a dairy farm. She is the third of four children. Martina McBride began her singing career in the family band “The Schiffters“, which played at local dances, in South-Central Kansas. Martina McBride had heard that RCA Records was looking for a new female artist to add to their company. McBride, a soprano, has been labeled the “Céline Dion of country music”. In addition two more singles were released from the album between 1992 and 1993 that failed to gain much success for McBride.

Marshall from Victoria, Texas writes: "Since I can remember, I have had one or two bouts a year with sore throat and cold/flu that turns into bronchitis. An elderly gentleman who remembered taking acv mixed with honey as recommended by his doctor when he was a child told me try it for my ailments. It has worked like nothing before! Mixed 50/50 with honey in a shot glass(for sore throat), as a straight shot(this burns the tummy a little), or 2 tablespoons with a cup of warm water for respiratory/sinus problems. I have not been sick since I started taking ACV at the first sign of illness. My children have used it as well. They aren't real happy with the taste and smell but I am happy with the results! Hard for doctors to get rich recommending this home remedy!"
[YEA] 10/31/2008: Bahbi from Salem, Oregon, USA writes: "My husband of 81 yrs recently was very sick with a bad cold (or flu?) and had a sore throat, and I (61 yrs old) felt I was also just catching it (just beginning to notice a scratchy throat, and have some congestion). We don't have any "extra" money, and I hate the idea of giving it all to the big pharmaceutical companies for the "privilege" of taking potentially toxic concoctions, so I'm always looking for cheap and natural ways to do things, and I looked online for cold remedies, and found EarthClinic. That first evening I read about Apple Cider Vinegar for flu/colds/congestion, and both my husband and I immediately started using it (1 Tablespoon in a glass of water, 3 times per day). It didn't taste wonderful, but wasn't TOO bad, and, after all, we were using it as "medicine"...and it did cure both my husband's and my sore throats (Mine within minutes, my husbands within 3 doses). The next day, while continuing the ACV 3/day, I also tried Jean's Tomato Tea because we were both still so congested. My husband usually likes slightly spice-hot foods, and I usually don't, but with the Tomato Tea he didn't like the "hot" sensation of the spiciness, and refused to drink any more after that first try---while I was instantly aware of it clearing my sinuses and soothing my throat, so I continued to use it over the next 3 days. It worked well for me as a decongestant, but my cold was still very much "there", and I began gaining weight (controlling my weight has been a life-long problem for me), so I stopped using the Tomato Tea, but continued the ACV 3/day. It has now been about a week, and my husband is completely healthy, and this morning I am feeling much better and much less congested. On the second morning after my husband and I began using ACV, we both lost weight. He has continued with a loss each day, and has now lost 7 pounds in 7 days. I had lost 3 pounds, then gained part of it back while I was using Tomato Tea, but now I am slowly losing again, so long as I don't eat anything with sugar and/or processed wheat flour."

What is IIP data?
Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in simplest terms is index which details out the growth of various sectors in an economy. E.g. Indian IIP will focus on sectors like mining, electricity, Manufacturing & General. Also base year needs to be decided on the basis of which all the index figures would be arrived at. In case of India the base year has been fixed at 1993-94 hence the same would be equivalent to 100 PointsIndex of Industrial Production (IIP) is an abstract number, the magnitude of which represents the status of production in the industrial sector for a given period of time as compared to a reference period of time.
Indian markets jumped up, snapping early losses, on the back of IIP data which was in line with expectations. At 12:17 pm, BSE Sensex was up 71 points or 0.73 per cent at 9,902. iip dataIndex of Industrial Production for September grew by 4.8 per cent compared to 1.3 per cent in the previous month but lower than 6.98 per cent year-on-year. Manufacturing rose 4.8 per cent against 7.45 per cent y-o-y. Capital goods advanced 18.8 per cent versus the 20.9 per cent growth last year. Mining and consumer durables production were at 5.7 per cent and 13.1 per cent respectively, up from the last year.

8 Great Features of an Internet resource for Home remedies
I have found a great site for home treatmen.
The following are the features of this site.
1. Contributors from every part of the world send most exciting remedies to date – dozens of restorative remedies, plus natural cures for cancer, fibromyalgia, back pain and better than 350 other diseases and conditions.
2. I am talking about Earth Clinic. The site is all about people and their experiences to help others without any money.
3. The site talks about safe, inexpensive, natural cures and home remedies to people around the world.
4. Earth Clinic currently has central offices in Atlanta and correspondents from around the globe.
5. It was very interesting for me when I read the biography of one of its contributors Mr. Ted from Thailand.
6. The site as claimed by the owners is full of effective, home-tested, and community-vetted remedies and cures proven through years in the homes of commonsense families for centuries.
7. It says that it is not a billion-dollar biotech trying to foist an expensive half-cure off on you but a friend, a neighbor who knows that we hold each other in our hands, for mutual health and happiness.
8. The site says in the end: Please continue to send your new discoveries, your secret old family remedies, your successes, your worries, and your good thoughts our way. Your ideas inspire us and your kindness gives us hope that in each other's hands we can all be healed again.
I have book marked this site for future reference and suggest you to do this. So do not forget to visit my blog and this site http://indmusings.blogspot.com/

There are little things we can do everyday to stay healthy. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we catch a cold or flu. Antibiotics are ineffectual in treating viruses. However, there are some alternative methods we can use to lessen flu and cold symptoms. Here are six:
The Old Standbys. Chicken soup has been proven, over the years, to ease symptoms of the flu. Garlic contains immune boosting substances. Recent studies have shown that garlic may also have an effect on pain reduction. Add a bulb of garlic, onions or leeks and celery to your chicken, when making chicken stock. Freeze it and keep it on hand for use when cold or flu symptoms hit.
Echinacea. While echinacea is no longer the favored herb used to prevent colds and flu, studies have shown that, if taken at the onset of a cold or flu, echinacea can be helpful in reducing symptoms.
Vitamin C. Current studies show no evidence that vitamin C, taken in large doses, can ward off a cold. However, a vitamin C supplement can reduce the amount of time you have a cold. There is no need to take huge doses of vitamin C. The extra amount will just wash out of your system.
Andrographis. While relatively new to the United States, Andrographis has been shown to help prevent or reduce the symptoms of a cold. It is believed to stimulate the immune system. It contains qualities that are helpful in reducing a fever without causing stomach upset.
Elderberries. The elderberry, as a medicine source, can be traced back to the time of Hippocrates. Tests have shown that elderberries suppress the growth of influenza. Patients who were tested on elderberry extract recovered faster than those on a placebo. This little berry has received a lot of attention, to date and is currently one of the favorite means of treating cold and flu symptoms naturally.
Astragalus. This is sometimes called " nature’s antibiotic". It has been used for over two thousand years in China. This herb is believed to fight off pathogens, in the body, while building up the immune system. As an Asian medicine, it is prescribed for a host of different ailments. Astragalus can be taken daily to help boost the immune system or taken at the onset of cold or flu symptoms to lessen the duration or symptoms.
While all of these natural treatments are helpful in easing or preventing symptoms of cold and flu, do not take all of them at once. More is not necessarily better. Use whichever treatment best suits your symptoms or what is readily available, in your area. If you are on any prescription medication or aspirin therapy, please work with your doctor to find the best herbal remedy for you. As always, if symptoms persist for more than seven days, consult your physician.

I started reading the book “The white Tiger” by Arvind Adiga, this year’s man booker prize winner with lots of expectation.
The more I read the more I was disillusioned.
This was a story of a man from the underprivileged society, he is from Bihar though the author has never mentioned it. In one place it is said that the town laxmangarh, the birth place of the hero of this novel was a few kilometers from Gaya. And Gaya happens to be in Bihar.
The story is about that man whose father was a rickshaw puller and who died of TB without any treatment.
A fact known to all that in villages of India there are no medical facilities, the patients are carried by people to nearby towns or cities where there could be a health centre, so called primary health care unit, where generally no doctors are available. This is true. But the narration in the book fails to describe it in appropriate way.
This was one incident which was detailed but it was not artistically written.
The boy was removed from the school and put in a tea shop from where he goes to Dhanbad (a part of Bihar till recently!) and takes the job of a driver. He then comes with his master to Delhi.
Throughout the book he was very satisfied with his master. Both he and his master were dissatisfied with the corruption of his family(politicians).
He becomes angry with the system and one day kills his master. The motive was not clear. Why he, of all the people, killed his master? I do not understand.
Then he goes to Bangalore starts a transport business and becomes successful.
The book begins and ends with the hero writing a long letter to the prime minister of China on the threshold of his visit to India.
What can I say about this book?
I am very dissatisfied with this book.
I will doubt about any man booker prize from now on.
The book seems written in a hurry. The author tried to create funny situations while describing four great poets of the world-every time telling that he has forgotten the name of the fourth one while forgetting that in between once he has mentioned the name of this fourth poet. I doubt whether the author has read the manuscripts twice.
The book promised to be of a different kind but it fell flat.
The white tiger failed to create any impact.

Diesel from fungus may be future fuel
Times of India, New Delhi, November 06, 2008
A reddish microbe found on the inside of a tree at a secret location in the rain forests of northern Patagonia could unlock the biofuel of the future, say scientists. Its potential is so startling that the discoverers have coined the term "my co-diesel" - a derivation of the word for fungus-to describe the bouquet of hydrocarbons that it breathes."This is the only organism that has ever been shown to produce such an important combination of fuel substances," said Gary Strobel, a professor of biology at Montana State University. "The fungus can even make these diesel compounds from cellulose, which would make it a better source of biofuel that anything we use at the moment."The study appeared in a peer-reviewed British journal, Microbiology Strobel, a 70-year-old veteran of the world's rainforests, said that he came across Gliocladium roseum thanks to "two cases of serendipity". The first was in the late 1990s, when his team, working in Honduras, came across a previously unidentified fungus called Muscodor albus. By sheer accident, they found that M albus releases a powerful volatile-meaning gassy- antibiotic. Intrigued by this, the team tested M Albus on the ulmo tree, whose fibres are a known habitat for fungi, in the hope that this would show lip. a new fungus. "Quite unexpectedly, G roseum grew in the presence of these gases when almost all other fungi were killed. It was also making volatile antibiotics," said Strobel. "Then, when we examined the gas composition of G roseum, we were totally surprised to learn that it was making a plethora of hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon derivatives. The results were totally unexpected and very exciting, and almost every hair on my arms stood on end." Strobel's team put the G roseum through its paces in the lab, growing it on an oatmeal-based jelly and on cellulose. Extractor fans drew off the gases exuded by the fungus, and analysis showed that many of them were hydrocarbons, including at least eight compounds that are the most abundant ingredients in diesel Biofuels have been promoted as good alternatives to oil, which is sourced from politically volatile regions and is a major contributor to the greenhouse effect.

I booked the White Tiger by Arvind Adiga, this years Man Brookers winner the day it was announced.
I was very anxious to read it. More so, as the last book I read which was a Booker prize winner was the life of Pi by Yan Martel. It had the strongest impression on me. For long I have not read such a book on the strength of human will to survive against all odds. It was a thriller but not the typical thriller we know. I was amazed.
So I wanted to read the white tiger by Adiga.
I booked it on net the day the award was announced and paid by credit card. I did some quick search in Internet to find out which online book company in India has the lowest price. I searched in indiaplaza, rediff, indiatimes etc . I found one company called NBC India has a price of Rs276/- So I booked it.
No reply from NBC for 4 days. Then I tried to contact them on phone (digged from Internet), I spent the whole day but no body was lifting the phone.
I sent an email enquiring my order. In reply they said the book is out of print and not available. They will send me the book when a new print comes. They also mentioned that this book is not available anywhere in India.
I replied them with a stern mail telling that the book is indeed available in India, I have seen it on bookshops and I want my refund. Immediate refund.
The book became all of a sudden available with NBC and I received it at my residence after 2 days!
You can make your conclusion!
Yesterday I have finished reading the book.
I plan to write my review soon.
I will not read any other review before I write my review. I do not want to be influenced by others. I want to give my true feelings on the book.
So keep an watch on this blog for review on “The White Tiger” by Arvind Adiga.
