Martina Mcbride Will Receive Nashville Symphony Harmony Award
Martina McBride has been named the recipient of Harmony Award .
The honor acknowledges those individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and appreciation of music in Nashville.
Previous recipients of the award include Chet Atkins, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, Lyle Lovett, Trisha Yearwood, Dolly Parton and the Judds.
“Martina Macbride” was born in Medicine Lodge, Kansas just outside of Sharon, Kansas, where her parents, Daryl and Jeanne Schiff, owned a dairy farm. She is the third of four children. Martina McBride began her singing career in the family band “The Schiffters“, which played at local dances, in South-Central Kansas. Martina McBride had heard that RCA Records was looking for a new female artist to add to their company. McBride, a soprano, has been labeled the “Céline Dion of country music”. In addition two more singles were released from the album between 1992 and 1993 that failed to gain much success for McBride.
