Abducted by rival, Maharashtra trader rescued in UP after 65 days

NEW DELHI: A 44-year-old Maharashtra-based businessman was rescued from a Muzaffarnagar paper mill where he was allegedly held captive for 65 days by three persons, including his business rival.

Manoj Aggarwal, a paper merchant from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, was allegedly kidnapped by the associates of Noor Salem Rana, the managing director of Rana Paper Mills, on July 7 from Delhi, said police. The plan was allegedly hatched by Rana, who had also unsuccessfully contested bypolls to UP Assembly, after he failed to recover Rs 14 lakh from Aggarwal. The police acted on the complaint of Aggarwal's wife, who told the cops that her husband didn't return from Delhi after a hearing in a case.

"On July 13, Aggarwal's elder brother received a call that the victim was in the custody of Rana after which a case of abduction was registered at Nabi Karim police station. A joint team of Delhi Police and UP police raided the Rana Paper Mills and rescued Aggarwal. Rana is absconding,'' said DCP (central) Jaspal Singh. No one has been arrested.

The Delhi Police had to face stiff resistance from the locals at Muzzarfarnagar after rescuing Aggarwal. Few local politicians and one of the relatives of Rana staged protest and tried to prevent Delhi Police from bringing Aggarwal to Delhi.

Rana had also filed a case against Aggarwal, who obtained a stay order from the Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court. "When Rana came to know about the arrival of Aggarwal in Delhi, he engaged Vishal Vishnoi and Manoj Sharma to bring him to Muzaffarnagar. They called Aggarwal to Mausam Vihar on the pretext of striking a business deal. He was abducted from there,'' added DCP Singh. Sharma and Vishal are sales managers, and are relatives.
