Jobs for 11,530 teachers in three months: Upinderjit  

To mark Teachers' Day, as many as 15 teachers were awarded at a state-level function held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Education minister Dr Upinderjit Kaur said, "Last year, we had appointed 4,000 teachers and lecturers to the post of principal but someone filed a writ petition in the High Court, so the process had to be stalled and the posts are still lying vacant."

About the pension to the teachers of government-aided schools, she said, "This issue is under consideration and we hope to sort it out soon."

Answering to a query as if the state government will curb the menace of fee hike by private schools, she said, "This issue is also under consideration as we do not give any financial help to private schools. We are making enquiries into the case and will come up will a solution soon."

Replying to a query on why books were not being made available to students of the Punjab School Education Board, she said, "Till the last year, Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan was publishing books but this year, the work has again been awarded to the PSEB. I will check up with the board chairman."

She said that before making Class X boards optional for CBSE students, the HRD ministry should have attained national consensus on the issue. "How can be you expect a child to face challenges, if we do not give him/her the opportunity to study hard."

She said that the state government would recruit 11,530 new teachers within next three months.

Chaudhary Swarna Ram Technical Education, Industrial Training. and Social Security Minister said to improve the standard of technical education and provide modern equipment to technical institutions and Industrial training centres in Punjab, the state government would be spending Rs 75 crore during current fiscal.

He said orphanages would be set up at Jalandhar and Hoshairpur at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

He added a world-class university is being set up at Amritsar to impart state-of-the-art education to the students to enable them to compete globally.

Dr Upinderjit Kaur in her speech forgot to utter a word about Dr Radha Krishnan while Chaudhary Swarana Ram pronounced his name wrongly as Sarvpalla Radha Krishnan. The teachers who were honoured included Kuldeep Singh Ugani from Government Co-education School at Rajpura, Surinder Kumar Jindal from GHS Kularan, Sakhbir Kaur (Mullanpur), Garib Dass (SAS Nagar), Dr. Jasbir Singh (Mansa), Jagdish Kaur Sidhu (Mukatsar), Ramesh Pal Lecturar (Ludhiana), Karamjit Singh (Ludhiana) Ajmer Singh ( Ludhiana), Sant Singh Dhiromajra (Fatehgarh Sahib). From Elementary Education, Hardev Singh (Ropar), Harpreet Singh (Mukatsar), Ajmel Singh Mohi (Ludhiana), Kanti Devi (Gurdaspur), Kulwant Singh Gill (Amritsar), Amar Singh from Ramgarh in Ludhiana.
