September 15 Engineers Day: Nation remembers Sir M Visvesvarayya  

New Delhi: Now a days can anyone imagine going without technology? Can the world go without technology? From automobile to communication, from print media to electronic media, and from agriculture to medical science, every field has witnessed a tremendous change in the technology they use.

The change has come due to constant efforts by our engineers and scientists who tirelessly worked for the development of technology. Their efforts have made India, a technology major. To salute the spirit of the engineers, nation celebrates the engineers' day on September 15.

The day is celebrated on birthday of Sir M Visvesvarayya who played a great role in developing technologies in India.

Sir Visvesvarayya headed the construction project of Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore. Many dams were built by him in Maharashtra.

The dams give a testimony to his brilliance, skill, honesty and dedication. Celebrating his birthday as engineers day, the nation pays a remarkable tribute to Sir M Visvesvarayya, who was given Bharat Ratna.

Sir Visvesvaraya, a wizard in engineering, was called the precursor of economic planning in India. He was a part of gem.

To remember the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, many events takes place in India every year. The Instituitions of Engineers, India organises meets and events on this occasion.

His erudite discourse on economic planning in India titled as ‘Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India' is a great document on the planning effort of the country. The document is still held as the parent source matter for economic planners.
