In the wake of increasing number of Haj pilgrims, Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee will request the central committee to increase its quota.
“The Central Haj Committee will be requested to increase quota of number of pilgrims allocated to the state,” state committee secretary M A A Khan said here today.
He said this year 63,141 applications were received by the committee.
“Of these, 27,378 were selected through lottery as per the quota allocated by the central committee, whereas 548 pilgrims have been kept in the waiting list,” he said.
Khan said this year Haj pilgrims will take flights from three places — Lucknow, Delhi and Varanasi.
“While first flight from Delhi and Lucknow will take off on October 20, flight from Varanasi will leave on November 3,” he said.
