'Hurt' Bindra takes on federation over selection process

In an outburst against the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Beijing Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who was left out of the squad for next month's Commonwealth Shooting Championships, said on Saturday that he was "hurt" by the shooting body's attitude towards him and that he didn't see a chance of future success if not allowed to train his way.
Bindra's name, alongside those of Athens silver-medallist Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore and Ronjon Sodhi, was not in the list of shooters picked by the NRAI for the event to be held in the Capital from February 17 to 28 after the three didn't participate in the selection camps. Bindra, who trains in Europe, said he had come to India to appear in the trials in December, only to find out there was no camp being conducted at all.
"There are days when I feel like throwing away my rifle. The whole thing started in July when the sports ministry said that the NRAI wants me to compete in the trials for Commonwealth Championships," Bindra told The Sunday Express.
