The question of film authorship is amplified by the concept of The Windmill Movie, a collection of footage by an aspiring documentarian posthumously weaved together by another filmmaker. Obviously, it is directed and conceived by director Alexander Olch, who has pieced together the botched efforts of Richard P. Rogers to create a likeness of his subject's creative vision. Perhaps it is a matter of performance, subject, and filmmaker, in which all the roles are clearly defined but can't help spill into one another, in the process finding the film's central hook. But Rogers' exceptional work stands apart from the nifty concept, turning the film into as much a biography of an artist as an experimental testimonial.
