This vow is dedicated to Lord Shiva and mainly observed in Andhra Pradesh and in some parts of Karnataka by married women for saubhagyam (longer life and good health of their husbands). 

Markandeya Puranam is recited during Bhakteshwara vratham on Kartika Purnima. Offering lotus flowers to Lord Shiva during the vratam is highly meritorious. On this vrata, Jwala Thoranotsavam is also observed.
