Sukhoi 30mki fighter jet aircraft today flown by Wing Commander S Sajan took off from Indian Airfoce Base at Pune with President Pritabha Patil as a co flier. With this President President Pratibha Patil who was in air for about 30 minutes became the first woman head of state to fly in a warplane. The place was flown at the 0.9 Mach (sub-sonic speed) or about 1,000 km per hour. The supersonic speed start at Mach one, which is about 1,236 km per hour.
If you recall it was former President A P J Abdul Kalam who has started this trend when he flew in a Sukhoi-30 in 2006. President of India is the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces.
President Pratibha Patil (74) set a world record by becoming the oldest woman to be airborne in a combat jet for a 30 minutes at a speed close to the supersonic level.
