Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. It is a holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States. While perhaps religious in origin, Thanksgiving is now primarily identified as a secular holiday.

U.S. tradition compares the holiday with a meal held in 1621 by the Wampanoag and the Puritans who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. In New York City, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is held annually every Thanksgiving Day.

Along with United States, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands also celebrated on the same day.
