The Delhi Finance Minister, A.K.Walia provides the ending touch to the Delhi Budget 2010. He told that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are struggling with its financial health, the budget could also see an announcement of increase in water and transport tariff.

To strengthen its coffers, the government will also have the option of withdrawing the Rs 40 subsidy per cylinder being given to domestic consumers but officials said the possibility is very remote.

In the Delhi Budget 2010, allocations for the different departments are expected to drop but The Delhi Government is looking for increasing its revenue collections by raising registration fees of the new emerging cars by the introduction of new slabs, by increasing the price of luxury tax on some products and by enhancing the VAT charges. In the Delhi Budget 2010, it is also expected by the state government that it can withdraw the cylinder subsidy on LPG upto Rs.40 that is costing the exchequer of Rs.168 crore. The Delhi Government may also remove some subsidy to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) & Delhi Jal Board (DJB). By both these agencies near about Rs.1500 crore will come to Delhi Government.

Today, 26th February 2010, Union Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee will present the Finance Budget 2010 - 2011 in Parliament at around 11 am.

Partial rollback of stimulus packages is the most speculated issue in this budget season and thus, all eyes would be on Pranab Mukherjee as he would table the Budget 2010-11 in Parliament.

The Economic Survey released yesterday, suggested an increase in taxes and duties as a part of partial withdrawal of stimulus packages, offered to cope up with the global economic meltdown.

“The broad-based nature of the recovery creates scope for a gradual rollback, in due course, of some of the measures undertaken over the last 15 to 18 months,” said the Survey.

Non stop train service "Duronto" introduced

In her budget speech, railway minister Mamata Banerjee announced the introduction of 12 new non-stop trains connecting metros in major state capitals.

These trains will not halt at any intermediary stations and thus would take even lesser time that the Rajdhani trains, she said. These trains will have both AC and non AC coaches.

Currently 12 new "Duronto" trains will be introduced. They are as follows:

1. New Delhi-Jammu Tawi Non stop (Tri-weekly)

2. Howrah-Mumbai (AC) Non stop (Bi-weekly)

3. Mumbai-Ahmedabad (AC) Non stop (Tri-weekly)

4. Chennai-Delhi Non Stop (Bi-weekly)

5. New Delhi-Lucknow Non Stop (Tri-weekly)

6. Delhi-Pune (AC) Non Stop (Bi-weekly)

7. Howarh-Delhi Non Stop (Bi-weekly)

8. New Delhi-Allahabad Non Stop (Tri-weekly)

9. Sealdah-New Delhi Non Stop (Bi-weekly)

10. Kolkata-Amritsar Non Stop (Bi-weekly)

11. Bhubaneswar-Delhi Non Stop (weekly)

12. Ernakulam-Delhi Non Stop (weekly)

Railway Budget 2009: 57 New trains

In the railway budget 2009-10 announced today, 57 new trains have been introduced. Railway minister Mamata Banerjee announced the list of new trains to be introduced in the parliament today. The following are the new trains released:

Railway Budget 2009 anounces "Ladies Only" train services in metros

Following the system of ladies only special coaches for women, railway minister Mamata Banerjee announced special suburban trains to be introduced in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.

She said that it would help ease the commuting of working women.
