Mr. Karunakaran was suffering from fever and respiratory problems and was admitted into the Ananthapuri Hospital and Research Centre on December 10. He suffered a stroke after that on Wednesday and was put on ventilator.

It is reported that the last rites of Mr. Karunakaran will take place on Saturday in Thrissur.

Congress declared that the death of this leader will be mourned for seven days. Mr. Karunakaran was very active politically even after he fell sick. His wife Kalyanikutty Amma passed away about 15 years back.
