Delhi traffic police’s SMS alert service on traffic jams and diversion updates, launched three days ago, has already logged 21,240 subscribers with a majority describing it as a ‘world class service’.


The Delhi traffic police launched the free SMS service July 16 to help people plan their travel in the city.

‘We have received requests for traffic alerts from about 21,240 people and the number is increasing,’ said a traffic police officer, who manages the traffic helpline.

For subscribing to the service, one has to SMS ‘Join DTP’ to 09219592195.
The users can also unsubscribe to the facility, for which one has to send a text message ‘Leave DTP’ to 09219592195.

Those who have subscribed to the traffic alert service are praising the initiative.

Long and arduous journey from a nondescript village Srirampur to Sansad is a lifetime achievement for Baishnab Charan Parida.




The newly elected BJD Rajya Sabha Member opened his heart in front of the members of the Media here on 20 June.



Bhubaneswar Media Forum, a leading organization of the journalists felicitated Mr.Parida.



Forum Secretary Papu Mohanty convened the meeting.

Prasanta Patnaik, veteran journalist chaired the meeting.



Pradosh Patnaik, leading journalist gave out details on Mr.Parida during his early days in student politics.

Replying to the felicitation, he said that it is a long journey fro a common man like him to go to the highest Law Making Institution of the country.



Born and brought up in Srirampur, a village in Jajpur district, Mr.Parida was attracted to Communism and led the leftist student union during his student career.



Mr.Parida admitted that he is a Communist by soul and fought for the common cause during his entire life.



He said being attracted to Communist Literature, a sojourn to Moscow shaped his life.



Mr.Parida said after years of engagement in information dissemination, he opted for political profession and joined in Congress.



Fed up with backbiting and dirty politics, Mr.Parida left Congress to join Samajbadi Party.



The socialist leader could not do much in the political outfit and opted for BJD.



Dubbed as a Party Hopper by opposition Congress and BJP, his candidature was opposed by few BJD insiders.



However Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, another Communist by heart came to his rescue and now he is Honourable Member of the Upper House of Parliament, revealed a senior scribe.

1. This is the 17th flight launch of Indian space agency's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C 15 from Sriharikota.
2. "The rocket will put into orbit five satellites – remote sensing satellite Cartosat-2B from India, Alsat from Algeria, two nano satellites from Canada and Switzerland, and a pico (very small) satellite called Studsat built by seven engineering students in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka".
3.This would be the first mission by ISRO after the failure of India's ambitious home-made cryogenic engine powered GSLV-D3 in April last.
4.In this flight, PSLV will place the 694 kg Cartosat-2B and four auxiliary payloads in a 630 km Polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
5.The satellite would help in urban planning and infrastructure development such as laying ring-roads and rerouting of highways.
6. "Cartosat-2B carries a panchromatic camera similar to that of its predecessors - Cartosat-2 and 2A"
7.It is  capable of imaging a swath (geographical strip of land) of 9.6 km with a resolution of 0.8 metre.
