Orissa to give cash to volunteers bringing cholera patients
Bhubaneswar, Sep 2 (PTI) With water-borne diseases claiming 26 lives in Orissa's Kalahandi district where some Cholera cases were detected, the state government today announced cash prize for volunteers who bring patients to hospitals for treatment.
The cash prize for the volunteers was announced by Health and Family Welfare minister Prasanna Acharya who along with Health secretary Anu Garg visited several diarrhoea and cholera infected villages of Kalahandi district.
"As many people, mostly women, were reluctant to go to hospital for treatment, so the government introduced the cash prize," Acharya told reporters adding that a volunteer would get Rs 200 for bringing one diarrhoea/cholera patient to hospital.
While the state government claimed that the disease was well under the control, fresh cases were reported from Junagarh and Thuamula-Rampur blocks, official sources said.
As many as 275 people had undergone treatment at different hospitals, Acharya said.
